February~ THE MONTH OF LOVE~ ๐๐๐
Greetings to the people who read my posts. How are you doing? What’s your life been like?
I’m back to give you more of my unhinged yet spirit led content by God’s grace.
So I wanted to do a Valentine’s Day post for the month of love (even though it passed already ๐ฌ).
Now I’m not too crazy over this holiday but I wouldn’t say I despise it. I use to be very against Valentine's Day in fact I would do everything in my power to try and avoid anything about love on the day, and that led to me spoiling my friends Valentines. (Now if said friends are reading please note I give my deepest apologies. ๐That was very low vibrational of me ๐)
Now there actually is a story behind Valentine’s day , it’s not just a day for big enterprises to scam us by selling expensive good on trinkets that we’ll probably gorget about by next week. No there’s this story based on a Priest in fact call Saint Valentine. No where did I originally come across this story ? On TikTok and since we all know how reliable news on social media is (cue my sarcasm๐ ). I went to my good old friend google to do some deeper research on it. (I’m trying to boycott ChatGPT if your wondering why I didn’t go there.)
Now here is what happened Saint Valentine wasn’t originally about chocolates, roses, or heart-shaped cards. His story comes from ancient Rome, and it’s a lot quieter and more human than the modern holiday makes it seem. Valentine is believed to have been a Christian priest living in the 3rd century, during a time when Christianity was not widely accepted. According to legend, the Roman emperor at the time had strict rules about marriage, especially for young men. Marriage was discouraged because leaders believed single men made more loyal and focused soldiers. ( Now that’s just wrong, so the leaders get to have their romantic lives and be with the people they care about most, but the people who are the frontlines of protecting the country must be lonely and loveless. Wow that’s such a great campaign for new recruits. Sign me up, heck who needs a lover to remember my sacrifice if I die in battle. I was born alone so I should die alone on the battlefield . All for the great sleazy emperor ๐)
Valentine didn’t agree with this.(As he should ) He believed in love, commitment, and the importance of marriage, so he continued secretly marrying couples despite the ban. These ceremonies were small and private, but they mattered deeply to the people involved. Eventually, Valentine was discovered, arrested, and imprisoned for defying the law. (Now I couldn’t find out how they caught him, but for my on personal conclusion is somebody ratted him out.๐คท♀️)
While in prison, stories say Valentine showed kindness to everyone around him. One popular legend claims he formed a bond with the jailer’s daughter (ok get it mister Valentine ๐คญ) and, before his execution, sent her a note signed “From your Valentine.” Whether this exact moment happened or not, the idea stuck—and it helped shape how his name became connected to love and devotion.
Valentine was executed around February 14, and later the Christian church honored him as a martyr. Over time, his story blended with existing traditions and, centuries later, writers and poets in medieval Europe began associating his feast day with romance and love.
So while today’s Valentine’s Day is light, fun, and commercial, the original Saint Valentine is remembered less for grand romance and more for quiet rebellion, compassion, and choosing love even when it was risky.
Now when I look at this story 2 things come to mind how Jesus set out to be the perfect example of love and compassion. Wanting us to love and care for one another irrespective of race, social standing, class, gender etc. As he says in
- 1 Peter 4:8: "Above all, love each other deeply, because love covers over a multitude of sins".
- John 13:34-35: "A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another".
Truly because in this world and in these trying times it feels like everyone rather be nasty, distant, mean to try not get hurt or there thinking about themselves. Which is not completely wrong self love is important for if you can’t love yourself how can you love others. However, it doesn’t mean self idolisation where you deem yourself over important that a simple gesture of kindness or care is to out of touch for you. Why should I do it , no one does it for me? This type of thinking is dangerous.
When God said love covers all he doesn’t mean it will be easy, cause I’m pretty sure we’ve all had our fair share of troubles with love weather it was platonic, romantic or family based. Many time those we care for let us down and hurt us. After all humans aren’t perfect, however God is and he says through me you can find love a never ending unconditionally love that covers you. From past family wounds from , work life struggles from friendship struggles even our sins. He offers redemption love for he sent his only son to die for us,( now that beets any overpriced card ) and his with us in every hardship and heartache he feels it himself, for he is in his creations waiting for us to reach out to him. Because God, also is a God of patience and privacy he won’t interfere in our lives unless we desperately need’s to or we allow him in .
Now it can be difficult to love people when they hurt you or get on your nerves I myself am still working on this. I’m getting better but I definitely used to be the type of person when you go lower I go lower and times it by 1000. But what has helped me to try and love those who’d hurt me is try and see it from the person perspective. How did they het here? What’s there home life like ? What are they personally struggling with? And often not turns out they have there own terrible battles to fight that make them act out the way they do now does it accuse thee behaviour. Absolutely not but instead of retaliating with hate I dimply called them out respectfully on what they did, saying it doesn’t stand by me , I forgive and I put you God’s hand for healing but don’t think that means I’m forgetting or giving you complete access to me like I did before. Some things to take note I still working on this(I have a temper) and every situation is different so you’ll need to love and handle the situation differently. However one thing for sure is but it in Gods hands for is love as I said covers all.
Onto the second thing that comes to mind when looking at Saint Valentine’s story is how our current generations dating problem. Now ‘m still in high school so you guess I’m part of the younger half of gen z that nearly borders near h]gen alpha. All I have to say is what the heck are we doing? The girlies are heartbroken and becoming anti-love, players, pick-me’s and bops to combat the trauma from their dating life . The boys are becoming anti social, incels, look’s opposed, superficial and not committal. (Note I’m not judging anyone I myself you fall into a couple of the categories here. Also this doesn’t mean everyone in our generation. Just the majority based off my own personal experience, and what I’ve seen and heard on tiktok.)
Teen love use to aspirational the type of thing we all looked up at when we were younger and couldn’t wait to have. We wanted to feel that Disney/romcom love, now it’s a contest to see who cares less and who can catch feeling last all while doing intimate things together that generates said feelings. I’ll go in deeper with this topic in a later post (where I’ll might traumatise you with my own love life stories๐ซก)but right now all I have to say is ket bring back being honest with our feelings, kets bring back dating as something fun new and enjoyable, try getting to know the person, try trusting the person and please try have more compassion for each other needs and feelings and not just thing about yourself. Also PLEASE BRING BACK MEN YEARNING !! I can’t stress this enough A MAN/ BOY WHO YEARNS EARNS. And ladies please ask yourself this important question when in a relationship do I love him or do I live the feeling of love.
